The Position enjoyed by Rajni is very unique. He is a product of the passionate South-Indian Psyche of doting on ideas that are larger than life. His status is mostly due to two things ...the above said crowd and the percolation of the Rajni Hype( which is quite dis-similar to the South-Indian fan affair) into the rest of the metro cities in India thanks mostly to the extreme( and very humorous) jokes on his abilities, the media and Facebook.
After Rajni had achieved this status his movies were always carefully made so as to appease the Hardcore fan and all Audiences alike everybody got what they expected from a Rajni movie. There was punch line dialogues and mannerisms like cigar throwing( narasimha and one other old movie) , bubble gum throwing (Chandramukhi), coin flipping (Shivaji) etc. etc. Each of them flawlessly executed by Rajni.
The Ladies always get their fare share of sentimental scenes and kids get a lot of stuff to imitate at home. The middle aged man gets his funny jokes that he could quote, the teenage and young adults get there punch dialogues to use with their friends.The Portrayal of Good and Bad is very usually very sharp. The actors are always good, the production follows good standards, the stories usually (in comparison to the general standard ) have better depth and richness. The artistic quality though isn't something that is remarkably high and that's because its not made to be so.
Following these minimum things assures a movie liked and enjoyed by all.
Now, to the issue of Ra.One. Firstly the lead actor, It's obvious, he is not Rajni, he is no-where near Rajni, His fan base is/was the Teenagers of the previous generation who patronized this fellow through their adult hood. These arent crazy about movies/ passionate people who stand days before and get killed waiting for movie tickets at Q- counters.
The movie is quite out of balance, the jokes arent simple or witty the kids might enjoy the premise of fighting the in-game characters. The adults will most certainly not, as the logic of the film is super-flawed. The villain has no strong purpose or reason he doesn't stand for anything and the Hero is just trying to kill this purposeless villain. It is a bad movie in general.
